How will the "Writing Instruction Resource" you develop improve your writing instruction for students in your classroom?
Assessment Piece:
Participants taking this class for three credits will be developing a Writing Instruction Resource as a way to deepen and extend their understanding of sound pedagogical practices and theories of writing. Participants should invest a minimum of 15 hours into the research and development of this resource.

Planning and implementing writing instruction is a difficult endeavor. There are many issues that emerge as you begin using this mode of instruction with your students.
Choose an element of writing instruction you would like to research. Define the difficulties or concerns that are inherent in that element. Formulate a set of 3-4 questions you want to use to help you search for answers. Locate resources and conduct a search for information that will help you find a classroom solution for your writing instruction concern. Develop a plan of action for implementing the solutions that will improve the effectiveness of your writing instruction.
Requirements:
1) Introduction: Explain why you chose to research this aspect of writing instruction (challenges you have encountered, etc.)
2) Questions: List the questions you are using to guide your research.
3) Project Goal: What will you create and how will this assist you with the challenges you have experienced? How will this resource address Michigan writing standards/expectations (select either the Common Core State Standards or Michigan Grade Level Content Expectations)? Common Cores State StandardsMI GLCEs K-8 MI HS Expectations
4) Teaching Resource: Your writing instruction resource should be beneficial to your unique teaching situation. This could consist of a collection of mini-lessons; a list of mentor texts annotated with notes about the elements of craft each piece demonstrates; writing pieces you have created as models; student conference plan/guidelines; revision strategies and lessons; a wiki laying out individual units/modules, etc.

6) Professional Reflection: What are the key insights you have gained from your research? How will this shape your instruction? How will students benefit? Did anything surprise you?
